Workshop is held in the Studio at Purlin' J's Yarn Emporium, 2-675 Arlington Park Place, Kingston, Ontario.

Saturdays; 19 September : 10:00 am - 12:00 pm,  26 September: 10:00 am - 1:00 pm, 3 October: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join us for learning and laughter in Beginner Knitting! This three-session class takes place over three autumn Saturdays. Students make a cozy toque; the sample is a slouchy style with a faux fur pompom, but a tighter fitting beanie is also an option. In session 1, you learn the knit and purl stitches (2 hours). In session 2, you will get comfortable with knitting in the round. Techniques covered: casting-on, ribbing, stockinette stitch (3 hours). In session 3, you learn how to use double-pointed needles (DPNs) and complete your hat (2 hours). 

Required Supplies:
  • 100g worsted-weight (4 Med) yarn. Suggested: Malabrigo Rios or Berroco Vintage. Be sure your skein is wound into a cake or ball prior to the first session.
  • 5 mm, 16" (40 cm) circular needles and
  • 5 mm double pointed needles (DPNs);
  • optional removable pom pom;
  • stitch marker; 
  • darning needle for finishing work
The pattern is provided at Session One.

Maximum 8 participants.

Prerequisites:

This is a beginner class. No prerequisites required.

About the Instructor:

Carol Gee has been a passionate knitter for 40 years and has been teaching others to knit for 39. She started teaching her friends how to make Icelandic knit sweaters in the 1980s, managed a Lewiscraft store for a couple of years, worked at a yarn shop in Perth for several years, and has test knit for a yarn company and a few designers . She enjoys working with people, especially when she can share her love of knitting and fibre. She has lived in Kingston for three years, and is looking forward to meeting everyone!
