Workshop is held in the Studio at Purlin' J's Yarn Emporium, 2-675 Arlington Park Place, Kingston, Ontario.

Saturday, 22 March: 10:00 am- 12:00 pm

Join Carol for your first Fair Isle knitting project using the technique named after the northern Scottish island known for its distinctive style of stranded colour work. The pattern is the "Benon Headband" by Hazel Tindall. It is free on Ravelry but will be supplied in class.

There is homework! Before class, students must cast-on the project and complete five rows of K1 P1 ribbing. If you are comfortable joining your knitting in the round, you may do so right away. If not, work the five rows of ribbing back and forth as if the project were flat, and we will join your knitting before we begin the pattern, together in class.
Sizing: Cast on 140 stitches for an average adult size. Please check the pattern online if you wish to make it larger or smaller.

Supplies Required:
  • four solid colours of fingering-weight yarn, approximately 90m of the main colour and less than 25m of each of the contrast colours
  • a 3.25 mm, 40 cm long circular needle
  • one stitch marker, and
  • scissors

Maximum 8 participants.

Prerequisites: This is not a beginner class. It is intended for advanced beginner to intermediate knitters. Students must have some knitting experience and be willing to try something new!
