Workshop is held in the Studio at Purlin' J's Yarn Emporium, 2-675 Arlington Park Place, Kingston, Ontario.

Maximum 5 participants.

There are four things you can do with a knitting project - fix it, finish it, frog it, or forget it! Join us for a one-evening workshop where you pick the project! Bring a project at home that is giving you trouble. Perhaps it has been forgotten, has gotten too confusing, you have lost your place in the pattern, you need help getting started, or need help with a certain technique. The instructor will help you work towards a resolution to the problem. In doing so as a group, we will demonstrate different techniques and methods of problem-solving to help in your knitting.

Please keep in mind this is a group setting, so instructor time will be divided between students' individual projects, with time for discussion and demonstration to help the group learn from each others’ projects.

A gentle note from the instructor: Sometimes knitting projects have strayed too far from the pattern or are no longer bringing us joy. “Frogging” or removing the stitches from needles and unravelling, is the best solution to reuse the yarn and knitting energy. If this is required (or desired!) during the class, we may be able to use a ball winder to unravel efficiently and tidily, leaving you with usable yarn.

Pre-Workshop Homework: Ensure your project materials are gathered, that yarn is untangled, and that your pattern is in good, easy-to-read condition.

Materials Required:

  • All materials required for your original project:
  • An easy-to-read pattern, in book, paper, or digital form (on a tablet or laptop, no phones please)
  • A project in reasonable condition. Please, no projects that have been sitting in basements or attics for decades!
  • Untangled yarn from a smoke-free home
  • Needles/hooks that are appropriate for your project
  • Yarn/darning needle
  • Scrap yarn in similar weight

  • Beginner to intermediate knitting skills
  • Willingness to learn from others in a collaborative environment
